Today List rubber duck stamp

One day. One list.
One task at a time.

How to be a doer in a world of planners.

Today List takes the shape of your day instead of giving you a second job. No task inbox to process. No backlog. No wall of items watching you every time you open it — just the day in front of you, and the next thing to do.

Free for 7 days, then $29.99/yr or $3.99/mo. Cancel anytime. All your data stays on your device.

Today List Today screen: habits with streaks and the day's tasks

You aren’t the problem

Your apps gave you a second job.

Filing, tagging, prioritizing, rescheduling, reviewing. Planning became the action — and the real work waited. The more you managed the list, the more list there was to manage.

W. Edwards Deming

“Every system is perfectly designed
to get the results that it does.”

A system that buries you in admin is designed to produce someone who feels buried in admin. The workflow was the problem. So we changed the workflow.

Today List flips the script

You quit the admin job.

No folders, no tags, no second list to manage. You organize by when, not what — so the app takes the shape of your day, not the other way around.

How it works

Three steps. That’s the whole day.

1

Capture

Type it or say it. Dates, repeats, and reminders get parsed right out of your sentence — “Every Monday at 8, call Mom.” Every task gets a day. There’s no inbox to drown in.

2

Today

Your tasks and your habits, one screen, today only. This is your whole plan — no scavenger hunt across lists, tags, and projects to find what actually matters now.

3

Execute

Tap Execute and the list disappears. One task stands in front of you with three buttons: Done, Bump, Reschedule. Then the next one.

The magic trick

One task. The rest disappears.

Most of the work of any task is the wall of other tasks it’s sitting next to. Tap Execute and the wall is gone — one task stands in front of you. When it’s one of one instead of one of thirty, doing it is the path of least resistance. Like shooting fish in a barrel.

Not right now? Bump it. Not today? Reschedule it. One tap, no baggage. Tomorrow builds itself while you work.

Doing and planning, combined into one step.

Plan without the weekly review

The days ahead, side by side.

Week lays out the next seven days and beyond. Drag a task to a new day, or drop one straight onto next Thursday — it’ll be waiting for you there. Shuffling things around is quick and easy.

That’s the whole planning ritual. No Sunday planning session. No migrating a backlog from one week into the next.

Everything it does — and nothing it doesn’t

Small on purpose. Complete on purpose.

Talk to add

“Every Monday at 8, call Mom.” The date, the repeat, and the reminder are parsed right out of your sentence.

🔥

Habits & streaks

Daily habits ride along at the top of Today. Tap to check one off and watch the streak climb.

🔔

Reminders

Give a task a time and a quiet notification lands at the moment — right on your phone, no account.

Repeats

Daily, weekly, monthly, or your own pattern. Finish one and the next is already on its day.

Nothing slips

Miss a day? Overdue tasks follow you onto Today — surfaced honestly, never silently swept away.

🔒

Private by design

No account, no servers, no ads. Your data never leaves your phone — there’s nothing to sell but the app.

When your list is empty, the day is over.

Tomorrow’s tasks are sitting on tomorrow — not buzzing in your head at 9pm. Same person. Different system. Different result.

Just Today — How to be a doer in a world of planners, by Mike Walls

The book behind the app

You don’t have to become a different person.

Ten years of building beautiful productivity systems that never stuck taught me the verdict I’d reached about myself was wrong. It wasn’t discipline I was missing — it was a system built for the person I actually am. Just Today is that story, and the architecture that came out of it.

Come as you are. The work still gets done.

Questions

What it does — and what it leaves out.

Why is there only one list?

Because you can only do what you can do in a day. You organize by when, not what — every task gets a day, and the day is the only category. More lists would just be more to manage.

Where are folders, tags, and projects?

Left out on purpose — each one is a decision you make twice, once to file a task and once to find it. To group a project, just name its tasks for it: “Kitchen,” “Job 65726MW,” “Andersen project.” Then search pulls the whole picture together whenever you want it. A naming habit plus search does what tags do, with none of the upkeep.

So there’s no inbox or backlog?

None. Nothing sits around unscheduled. If something matters, it gets a day; if it doesn’t, it doesn’t make the list — so there’s no someday-pile to dread. Not sure when? Drop it on whatever day you want it to meet you next, then do it, bump it, or move it right there in Execute mode — the deciding happens in the moment, not in a planning session.

What about subtasks and dependencies?

Not modeled — and you won’t need to stay on top of them. Execute mode hands you one task at a time; if something isn’t ready yet, you bump or reschedule it in a tap and move on. The order takes care of itself as you go — it’s daily hygiene, not a system to maintain.

What if I forget to finish something?

It doesn’t vanish. Anything you didn’t get to shows up as overdue on Today, and it greets you again in Execute mode — where you either knock it out or move it to a day you actually will. Nothing slips through the cracks, and nothing guilt-trips you from a hidden pile.

Does it sync across my devices?

Not in real time. Today List runs entirely on your iPhone — no account, no servers, which is what keeps it private. Live cross-device sync isn’t here yet.

What if I switch phones, or want my data out?

Your data isn’t trapped. It rides along in your iPhone’s backup, so restoring a new phone from iCloud brings Today List and everything in it with it. You can also export your whole list to a file anytime from Settings and keep it wherever you like — you always own a copy, and there’s no account to get locked out of.

What do I need, and what does it cost?

An iPhone. Free for 7 days, then $29.99/year or $3.99/month — no ads, and your data is never sold.
